Hi, my name is Kesha, and I’m a tax nerd.

I first gained an interest in taxation while I was in undergrad at Georgia State University. I took my first tax course in 2007 and fell in love with the discipline. Shortly after graduating, and while studying for and taking my CPA exams, I began learning about individual income tax and realized that I actually did have a passion for tax.

Over the last ten plus years, I’ve gained experience in both business and individual taxation. I’ve worked with a wide variety of tax returns, from low-income taxpayers to expatriates to small businesses. Currently, I am a corporate income tax accountant for a multi-billion dollar company as well as a small business owner. My experience working in a tax department in Corporate America helps me better understand the nuances of tax law that can affect even the smallest business returns. My experience as a small business owner and direct seller helps me to better understand the frustrations and unique challenges that small business owners face.

My philosophy on taxes is that even if you don’t do it yourself, you should have a basic understanding of how the tax law affects you. So, I created TheMillennialTaxpert.com to be a resource to help other millennial women who are entrepreneurs – small business owners, direct sellers, boutique/shop owners, side hustlers, content creators, etc – make sense of the ever-changing and increasingly complex tax laws and become one step closer to financial peace.

Come hang out with me on Instagram and Pinterest!

WHAT IS AN ENROLLED AGENT?

(From www.naea.org)

Enrolled Agents (EAs) are federally-licensed tax practitioners who may represent taxpayers before the IRS when it comes to collections, audits, and appeals. As authorized by the Department of Treasury’s Circular 230 regulations, EAs are granted unlimited practice rights to represent taxpayers before IRS and are authorized to advise, represent, and prepare tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, estates, trusts, and any entities with tax-reporting requirements. Enrolled agents are the only federally-licensed tax practitioners who specialize in taxation and have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS. The enrolled agent profession dates back to 1884 when, after questionable claims had been presented for Civil War losses, Congress acted to regulate persons who represented citizens in their dealings with the U.S. Treasury Department. Enrolled agents’ expertise in the continually changing field of taxation enables them to effectively represent taxpayers at all administrative levels within the IRS.

WHAT IS A CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT?

(From www.aicpa.org)

A CPA, or Certified Public Accountant, is a trusted financial advisor who helps individuals, businesses, and other organizations plan and reach their financial goals. Whatever those goals – saving for a new home, opening a new office, or planning a multi-billion dollar merger – CPAs can help.
